Working out your age sounds simple until you try to do it by hand — subtracting birth year from the current year only gets you close, because it ignores whether your birthday has actually happened yet this year and glosses over the fact that months don't all hold the same number of days. - • Start with your date of birth and today's date (or a chosen "as of" date)
- • Count complete years first, checking whether this year's birthday has passed
- • Then count the remaining whole months since your last birthday
- • Then count the remaining days since that last monthly mark
- • Convert the full span into total weeks, days, hours, minutes, and seconds
