Percentage Calculator

Six types of percentage calculations in one place — find percent of a number, percent change, reverse percentage, percent difference, tips, and more.

Percentage of a Number

Result = (X / 100) × Y

Result

30

15% × 200 = 30

💡 Real-World Percentage Uses

Discount Savings

25% off a $160 jacket = $40 saved → $120 at checkout.

Investment Return

$2,000 grows to $2,300 = a 15% return on the original stake.

Sales Tax

$64 purchase + 7.25% tax = $4.64 tax → $68.64 total due.

Exam Score

38 correct out of 50 = (38/50) × 100 = 76% on the test.

Weight Loss

Dropping from 210 lbs to 189 lbs is a 10% reduction in body weight.

Interest Rate

$8,000 balance × 4.5% APR = $360 in interest for the year.

How to Calculate Percentages

A percentage is simply a number expressed as a fraction of 100 — the word comes from the Latin per centum, meaning "by the hundred." Percentages give everyone a common scale for comparing proportions, no matter how large or small the underlying numbers are: a 10% raise means the same relative jump whether your salary is $30,000 or $300,000. The six calculators above cover the formulas people run into most often, from a straightforward "percent of a number" lookup to directional percent change, reverse percentage, symmetric percent difference, and splitting a restaurant bill.

The 6 Percentage Formulas

1. % of Number: Result = (X / 100) × Y 2. What %: Result = (X / Y) × 100 3. % Change: Result = ((New − Old) / |Old|) × 100 4. Reverse %: Original = Final / (1 + Percent/100) 5. % Difference: Result = (|V1 − V2| / ((V1+V2)/2)) × 100 6. Tip: Tip = Bill × (Tip%/100); Each = (Bill+Tip)/People
