How to Calculate Percentages
A percentage is simply a number expressed as a fraction of 100 — the word comes from the Latin per centum, meaning "by the hundred." Percentages give everyone a common scale for comparing proportions, no matter how large or small the underlying numbers are: a 10% raise means the same relative jump whether your salary is $30,000 or $300,000.
